Test strips and reagent for the detection
and semi-quantitative determination of peracetic acid
EM Quant® analytical test strips
are designed for preliminary tests and for the determination of
graduated concentration ranges. The test is suited for the selective
determination of peracetic acid traces in aqueous solutions and for
checks for the absence of peracetic acid after rinsing processes, also
in cases in which hydrogen peroxide is present.
Peracetic acid reacts with an aromatic amine to
form a blue dye. the concentration of peracetic acid is measured semiquantitatively
by visual comparison of the reaction zone of the test strip with the
field of a color scale.
Disinfectant and rinsing solutions (all types of
hospital laboratories and private medical laboratories, food

Store original sealed packs in refrigerator.
Opened packs: store closed container outside the
refrigerator in a cool, dry place.
When stored under these conditions, the test
strips are stable at least up to the date stated on the pack.
- Remove test strip and immediately reclose
- Immerse reaction zone of the test strip
briefly (approximately 1 second) in sample solution.
- Gently shake off excess liquid from test
- After approximately 5 seconds, compare color
of reaction zone with the color fields on label. Determine with
which field the color of the reaction zone coincides most exactly
and read off corresponding concentration value. If an exact color
match cannot be achieved, estimate an intermediate value.
The color of the reaction zone may change after
the specified reaction time has elapsed. This must not be considered
in the measurement and does not impair the function of the test
Influence of Foreign Substances
Strong oxidizing agents such as halogens
(chlorine, bromine, iodine) or hypochlorite may also give a positive
reaction (blue coloration).
