Reflectoquant® Manganese Test, Catalog No. 16991/1
1. Method
Mn2+ ions are oxidized to
manganese(IV) oxide. This produces a discoloration of an organic redox
indicator, which is determined reflectometrically.
2. Measuring Range and Number of Determinations

3. Applications
Sample Material:
Groundwater and drinking water
Industrial water
Wastewater
Boiler feed water
4. Influence of Foreign Substances
This was checked - in the case of interfering
ions up to concentrations of 1,000 mg/l - in solutions containing 20
and 0 mg/l Mn2+. The concentrations of foreign substances
given in the table lie below the limit at which the determination is
interfered with:

5.Reagents and Auxiliaries
Please Note the Warnings on Labels!
The analytic test strips are stable at least up to the date stated on
the pack when stored in the closed tube at +15 to +25°C.
Package Contents:
Tube containing 50 analytical test strips Bar code strip
1 bottle of reagent Mn-1 1 bottle of reagent Mn-2
Other Reagents:
EM Quant® Manganese Test, Cat.
No. 10080, measuring range 2-100 mg/l Mn2+
colorpHast® Universal indicator strips pH 0-14, Cat. No.

Titristar® Sulfuric acid 25% GR, Cat. No.SX1243M
Manganese standard solution ready for use, 1,000
mg/l Mn2+, Cat. No. MX0172
6. Preparation
- Check whether the manganese content is
within the measuring range
- Use the EM Quant® Manganese
Test as a guide. Samples containing more than 45mg/l Mn2+
must be diluted with distilled water.
- The pH must be within the range 1-7.
Check with universal indicator strips. If pH is greater than 7, add
dilute sulfuric acid dropwise.
7. Procedure
· Observe the instructions for the RQflex
Reflectometer.
The following applies to the Manganese Test:
Measurement Procedure B.
Stored waiting time: 15 sec.
Stored reaction time: 60 sec.
- Remove 1 analytical test strip and immediately
reclose the tube.
- Immerse both reaction zones of the
test strip in the pretreated sample solution (10-40°C) for
approx. 2 sec.
- Vigorously shake off excess liquid from the
test strip.
- Place 1 drop of reagent Mn-1 on each of the
reaction zones and at the same time press START button of the
reflectometer.
- After the end of the waiting time,
vigorously shake off excess liquid from the test strip. The reaction
time is shown on the display.
- Place 1 drop of reagent Mn-2 on each of the
reaction zones and at the same time press START button of the
reflectometer.
- As soon as the beeper sounds (5 sec before
end of reaction time), vigorously shake off excess liquid from the
test strip. Then immediately insert the test strip all the
way into the strip adapter with the reaction zones facing the
display.
- Read off the result from the display in mg/l
Mn2+. The result is automatically stored.
Notes:
- In samples containing oxidizing cations or
anions, the reaction zones turn green in color even before
the addition of the reagents.
- At the end of each workday, cleanse the
strip adapter thoroughly with water or ethanol.
8. Method Control
To check analytical test strips, equipment and
procedure:
Dilute manganese standard solution to 10mg/l
Mn2+ and analyze as described in section 7.
