Reflectoquant® Calcium Test Strips

Reflectoquant® Calcium Test, Catalog No. 16993/1

1. Method

In the presence of hydrogen peroxide, Ca2+ ions react with glyoxal bis(2-hydroxyanil) to form a red complex, the concentration of which is determined reflectometrically.

4. Influence of Foreign Substances

This was checked - in the case of interfering ions up to concentrations of 1,000mg/l - in solutions containing 20 and 0mg/l Ca2+. The concentrations of foreign substances given in the table lie below the limit at which the determination is interfered with:

The analytic test strips are stable at least up to the date stated on the pack when stored in the closed tube at 15 to 25°·C.

6. Preparation

  • Check whether the calcium content is within the measuring range

Use the EM Quant® Calcium Test as a guide. Samples containing more than 45 mg/l Ca2+ must be diluted with distilled water.

7. Procedure

  • Observe the instructions for the RQflex Reflectometer.

The following applies to the Calcium Test:

Measurement procedure A. Stored reaction time: 90 sec.

Use the plastic syringe, transfer 6 ml of pretreated sample solution (20-40ºC) to the test vessel.

  • Remove 1 analytical test strip and immediately reclose the tube.
  • Press START button on reflectometer and at the same time Immerse both reaction zones of the test strip in the measurement solution for approx. 2 sec, then set aside with the reaction zones facing upwards.
  • Add 1 level blue microspoon (in the cap of the Ca–1 bottle) of reagent Ca–1 to the sample solution and dissolve by swirling.
  • Add 10 drops of reagent Ca–2 and swirl.
  • Press START button again of the reflectometer and - this is imperative - at the same time place the test strip in the measurement solution so that both reaction zones become completely wetted.
  • Exactly 10 secbefore the end of the reaction time, remove the test strip from the solution and vigorously shake off excess liquid. Then immediately insert the test strip all the way into the strip adaptor with the reaction zones facing the display.
  • Read off the result from the display in mg/l Ca2+. The result is automatically stored.

Note:

At the end of each workday, cleanse the strip adapter thoroughly with water or ethanol

8. Method Control

To check analytical test strips, equipment and procedure:

Dilute calcium standard solution to 10mg/l Ca2+ and analyze as described in section 7.
