EM Quant® Arsenic Test (sensitive), Catalog No. 17926/1
1. Method
When zinc and sulfuric acid are added to compounds of arsenic(III) and
arsenic(V), arsenic hydride is liberated, which in turn reacts with mercury(II)
bromide contained in the reaction zone of the analytical test strip to
form yellow-brown mixed arsenic mercury halogenides. The concentration
of arsenic(III) and arsenic(V) are measured semiquantitatively
by visual comparison of the reaction zone of the analytical test strip
with the fields of a color scale.
2. Measuring Range and Number of Determinations

5. Reagents and Auxiliaries
| Please note the warnings on the packaging materials! |
The analytical test strips are stable at least up to the date stated on the pack when
stored in the closed tube at +15 to +25°C.
|
Package Contents:
Tube containing 100 analytical test strips 1 bottle of reagent As-1
2 bottles of reagent As-2 1 graduated 10ml plastic syringe
1 reaction vessel with stopper 1 measuring spoon
Other Reagents:
Arsenic standard solution CertiPUR®, 1000 mg/l As, Cat. No. 1.19773
6. Preparation
Samples containing more than 0.5mg/l As3+/5+ must be diluted with distilled
water. Alternatively, it is also possible to use the EM Quant® Arsenic Test
Cat. No. 10026/1 (measuring range 0.1-3mg/l As3+/5+).
7. Procedure
| With the reaction zone first, insert the analytical test strip approximately
halfway through the slot in the stopper of the reaction vessel. |
| Pretreated sample |
10ml |
Inject into the reaction vessel using the syringe. |
| Reagent As-1 |
2 level measuring spoonfuls |
Add and swirl. |
| Reagent As-2 |
10 drops |
Add rapidly, immediately close the reaction vessel with the stopper,
and swirl gently. Avoid any contact between the test strip and the sample solution! |
Leave to stand for 30 min, gently swirling two or three times.
Remove the test strip, briefly dip into water, shake off excess liquid and determine
which color field on the label coincides most exactly.
Read off the corresponding result in mg/l As3+/5+. If an exact color match
cannot be achieved, estimate an intermediate value. |
Notes on the Measurement:
- The color of the reaction zone may continue to change after the specified reaction time
as elapsed. This must not be considered in the measurement.
- If the color of the reaction zone is equal to or more intense than the darkest color
on the scale, repeat the measurement using fresh, diluted samples until a value of
less than 0.5mg/l As3+/5+ is obtained. This must then be multiplied by the
corresponding dilution factor.
8. Method Control
To check analytical test strips, test reagents, and handling:
Dilute arsenic standard solution to 0.1mg/l As3+/5+ and analyze as described
in section 7.
9. Notes
- Reclose the reagent bottles and the tube containing the test strips immediately
after use.
- Rinse the reaction vessel and the syringe with distilled water only.
